If you're just starting your fitness journey and want to strengthen your abs, this beginner-friendly workout is a great place to start. These 6 exercises target different areas of your core and can be done at home with no equipment.
The goal isn't to rush through the workout. Focus on controlled movements, proper breathing, and keeping your core engaged throughout each exercise. With consistency, these movements can help improve core strength, stability, balance and overall body control.
1️⃣ CRUNCHES — 15 REPS
Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Place your hands lightly behind your head and lift your shoulders toward your knees by contracting your abdominal muscles. Lower yourself slowly and repeat.
TIP: Avoid pulling on your neck. Let your abs do the work and keep the movement controlled.
2️⃣ LEG RAISES — 12 REPS
Lie flat on your back with your legs extended. Keep your lower back controlled against the floor as you slowly raise your legs upward, then lower them without letting them drop quickly.
TIP: Move slowly, especially while lowering your legs, and keep your core tight throughout the movement.
3️⃣ HEEL TOUCHES — 20 REPS
Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet planted. Lift your shoulders slightly and reach one hand toward the heel on the same side, then alternate sides.
TIP: Keep your movements short and controlled while focusing on your side abdominal muscles.
4️⃣ FLUTTER KICKS — 20 SECONDS
Lie on your back and raise your legs slightly above the floor. Alternate moving your legs up and down in small, controlled movements while keeping your core engaged.
TIP: If your lower back starts lifting from the floor, raise your legs slightly higher or take a short rest.
5️⃣ PLANK HOLD — 20 SECONDS
Position yourself on your forearms and toes with your body forming a straight line from your shoulders to your heels. Tighten your abs and glutes while holding the position.
TIP: Don't let your hips drop or rise too high. Keep your body stable and breathe normally.
6️⃣ TOE TAPS — 20 REPS
Lie on your back and bring your knees into a bent position. Slowly lower one foot toward the floor, lightly tap it, then bring it back up before switching legs.
TIP: Keep your core tight and your lower back controlled throughout every repetition.
🔥 HOW TO DO THE WORKOUT
Complete all 6 exercises in order. Rest for around 30–60 seconds when needed, especially if you're a beginner. Once you become more comfortable with the movements, you can repeat the entire routine for 2–3 rounds.
💡 IMPORTANT: These exercises can strengthen and develop your abdominal muscles, but no workout can specifically remove fat from only the stomach area. For a leaner-looking waist and better overall results, combine regular strength/cardio activity with a balanced diet, adequate sleep and consistency.
